C and Farm Animals and Zoo Trip!

Zoo Trip
A trip to the zoo, what a great way to start the week! It was so fun starting our trip with a big yellow school bus. We sang lots of songs on our way there, talking about which animals we think we'll see and what different sounds they make. We walked around the zoo holding our partners' hands so safely. We saw two bears in action, parrots eating, a tiny pudu, very large bison, a sea lion show, then had a picnic, walked in the aviary filled with birds, and finally crossed over to the other side of the zoo where the farm animals are. We fed the goats, it was lots of fun!

Farm Animals
On Tuesday Morah pretended to be a farmer and asked the Nursery friends if they can help take care of the animals. After going to the zoo, we concluded that wild animals and farm animals should not live in the same area. We divided our animals into 3 sections wild, farm, and ocean. We then graphed our favorite farm animals, the cow is the most popular one in the Nursery. The next day we learned all about the sheep. The farmer and his animals help each other, they do team work! The sheep has lots of hair that grows, and grows, the farmer shears the hair, (that's fancy for cutting) and the farmer uses it to make warm things it's called wool. We also learned about the chicken, it gives us eggs; and the cow, it gives us milk. Lamb, chick, calf are words we matched with sheep, chicken, and cow. Cutting out oval shaped eggs, and handprints for a chicken we decorated a life cycle of a chicken. We decorated a cow in the shape of a 'C'. Our favorite farm activity was milking the cow!

This week we explored the water cycle. When the sun heats the earth, the top layer of the ocean warms up and evaporates. It then condenses to form clouds, and when it gets heavy it precipitates, rain or snow!  We had a science experiment to see what happens to water when it gets hot. In a bowl we poured hot water and covered it with a clear plastic. In no time the plastic fogged up and then began to drip little drops of water! We practiced our number recognition skills by counting the dots on a cloud and matching it with the correct number of rain drops. It was fun to autohor and illustrate another class book, this one is titled 'If I were a cloud I would rain...'. Come visit our library to read it!
Song: Evaporation: when the water goes up. Condensation: when it makes a cloud. Precipitation: when the water comes down that's what we call rain or snow.

Fun photos from the week!
