Autumn
On Monday we each took a brown paper bag with us on our hike in Prospect Park. We went to different trees and found different colored leaves and made 'crunch, crunch' sounds in the large piles. The next day we each chose which leaf was our favorite and why. There were lots of different descriptions come check out our class wall! Using a tree as our guide we discovered what happens in each season. During 'Stav' which means Fall in Hebrew the leaves come down. When we were on our hike we tried pushing down a tree, and for some reason it was not knocking over. In class Ash allowed Morah to outline his body to help us make the shape of the tree. We learned the names of the different parts of the tree The part that is in the ground that we can't see are called roots and that's why we couldn't push the tree over. Roots, trunk, branches, and leaves are the different parts of the trees that we can name! It was fun to make an art project naming the different parts. Leaf patterning, acorn counting, and a Fall matching game were all different activities we enjoyed from our Autumn discovery center.
Alef
This week we learned the first letter of the Alef Bet, Alef! We sang a song learning the sound Alef makes and learned a new Hebrew word: Adom, which means red. Using different red art supplies we decorated our very own Alefs. Using yellow highlighters we became detectives and found some Alefs.
A is for Ant
We were so excited to begin learning the Alphabet this week. A makes the sound 'AAA' and the chant 'line up, line down and a line across' was something we practiced all week. Every letter that we learn in the Nursery we learn about something that begins with that letter, this week we learned about the wonderful world of ants. Ants come from the Animal family of insects. They have 3 body part the head, thorax and abdomen, 6 legs, 2 eyes, a mandible and 2 antennae. They communicate with one another rubbing their antennae together. We pretended to communicate like ants, but boy was it hard to understand one another. We concluded that using our words to express ourselves is the best form of communication for people. Their mandibles act as their mouths and arms, we use our arms to help lift things they use their mandibles! Ants are extremely strong they can lift objects that are much heavier than themselves. There is something we can learn from everything in this world. Ants are great workers, yet when one task is to big for one another ant will join in to give a hand, we call teamwork!
We worked like ants. Lifting the table on our own is difficult.... |
..but when you do teamwork anything is possible! |
Have a wonderful weekend and Shabbat Shalom!
