Colors
This week the Nursery class explored the world of art through color. We began by learning the primary colors, red, yellow, and blue and learned that these colors are not made using other colors. The next day we mixed up the primary colors and discovered three new colors purple, orange and green also known as secondary colors. There are different artists that like to use different colors when creating art. Piet Mondrian liked to use primary colors in his art. We created Mondrian art in a few steps. First we each chose a book to help us create long lines across our paper both horizontally and vertically, we noticed that the lines created shapes - squares and rectangles The next day we colored over the lines using a black marker to make the shapes clear. Choosing 3 shapes on the page each friend colored one in with a red, yellow and blue crayon, finishing our Mondrian inspired art.

CMA TRIP
We saw maps made out of different art materials
We are artists too! Using different materials we created maps!
J is for Jungle
Coming from last week’s trip to Israel, where it’s hot and beautiful, was a change when we geared up to go to the Jungle. Before we went we prepared ourselves. The layout of a Jungle has 3 layers. The highest part, where the tallest trees are is called the EMERGENT layer. Birds that can fly really high are found on that level. The next level and a little lower down is called the CANOPY. The reason it’s called that is because the trees on that level sort of connect at the leaves forming a canopy. To understand what that is we all stood up and put our hands on our sides. When Morah asked us to lift our hands we automatically were touching our neighbor’s hands. Animals that enjoy this layer are monkeys, they get to swing from tree to tree. Because the canopy layer is all connected, sun light has a tough time getting through. This makes the third and lowest level the FOREST FLOOR very dark and dingy. Animals that live there are slithery snakes and large insects. On the outskirt of the jungle live the lions and tigers. We colored our vests using back, brown, and green to camouflage in the jungle. Forming binoculars with rolled up paper and tape was fun too! After all of our gear was ready we took ourselves on this dangerous trip. Using our imagination, carefully walking around the animals and freezing up when there was a snake coming by was quite the adventure. We documented what our favorite animal was in the jungle and made a beautiful picture to go along.
We made rain, using a rainstick!!
And then using our hands to clap and feet to stomp and the Morahs to snap we made a rain song too!
