Thanksgiving
This week to properly prepare for Thanksgiving, we revisited the topic of 'All About Me'. We each have different names and look different from one another, yet there are also some similarities. Writing our names, finding our English and Hebrew names on the board, and illustrating what our favorite things are about ourselves were a fun way to start the week. Choosing a pre-cut shape of a boy, girl, mom, and dad helped us put together the different people in our families. Wow, do we have so much to be thankful for! In the spirit of being thankful and to prepare for Chanukah, we decorated a box for gifts to be dropped off in front of our class. Presents will go to children in need for the holiday.
Gimmel is for Glida
We are up to the third letter in the Alef-Bet! Gimmel makes a hard G sound and we learned ice cream in Hebrew is called Glida! We decorated our large Gimmel with lots and lots of scoops of Glida.
F is for Fire
Last week we walked around the school to find ‘EXIT’ signs. This week we began with a small match. After striking it, we observed the differ-ent colors a fire has. Blue at its center red, yellow, and orange above that. In Hebrew fire is called, ‘Aish’, and we know not to touch it. We discussed some pros and cons to a fire. What is safe and what is not. A fire can keep us warm, and can help us bake, cook and bar-b-q. We also use fire to light Shabbat and Chanukah candles. In order to keep our homes safe we must have smoke detectors. If there is smoke, it will ‘detect’ the smoke and sound off, ‘beep, beep, beep!’ We went to see the fire hydrant on 3rd street. Just in case there is an emergency, a firefighter connects the hose to the pump and sprays out water. In order to get the firefighters to come we need to call 9-1-1. We only call if it is an EMERGENCY.
Stop, drop and roll are three things to do if our clothes catch fire. We
learned a fun song to those words and enjoyed practicing it as well!
